I never noticed it is 1-1-2011, but numerology aside, I think it is a great time to set a resolution to make some bowls for an Empty Bowls project in your town. Feel good about yourself and help the people in your area that need help. Turn local, help local.
Turn a bowl, feed the hungry. It’s that simple.

We want to see more of these, club pages and releases where your club helped your area
Feed My People is a “food bank” located here in Eau Claire that supplies free food to 69 food pantries in 14 counties going from Hayward and Spooner in the north to Black River Falls and Alma in the south. Medford in the East to Durand and Pepin in the west. Much of its food supplies come from Second Harvest, located in the Twin Cities but, much also comes from local companies (retail, wholesale, jobber) right here in the Chippewa Valley. They have two trucks with volunteer drivers that are on the road 5 days a week delivering to these pantries and picking up donations.
As you can see from the adjoining pictures there was no lack of enthusiasm and focus as the membership stood up, accepted the challenge and turned not only 85 bowls but, also, laminated pens, pen/pencil sets w/cases, pepper mills, tooth pick holders, and special bowls. Fourteen members and one non-member , Rick Bauer’s daughter Mary, took time out of their busy lives to help those less fortunate.

Looks like Nate (my boy wonder) has done a fabulous job at getting us rolling. The photo gallery is operational and we have the front page pulling photos from the gallery for display there.
What we need now is your photos. Send us photos of your participation in Empty Bowls projects, photos of your bowls, and videos too!
Please send then to steve(at)turningwood.com
And thanks for your help in feeding the hungry!

I was so excited when someone from the UK emailed me today saying he saw the article ion the UK magazine Woodturning about Bowls for Hunger. I do subscribe but had not had a chance to see it yet, but lo and behold, there it was on page 53 of the November 2010 issue. Special thanks to editor Mark Baker, the GMC Group and Woodturning Magazine

Got in front of a whole bunch of people at the AAW Symposium this last weekend to talk about the bowlsforhunger website and mission.
Talk with 3 magazines about press release and Linda with the AAW about spreading the word in conjunction with the AAW.
It is pretty amazing the split between those who are aware and those not. But that’s the mission here, to inform the those who are not aware, about how they can help.
I am real excited about what we, the woodturning community , can do to help!
